THE STORY OF OTOKOTO MONEY RITUAL KILLING IN 1996

On 19th September 1996, during the regime of late General Sani Abacha's, in city of Owerri - Imo of Nigeria, an innocent 11-year-old boy named Anthony Ikechukwu Okoronkwo was murdered for Ritual.

The little boy was hawking boiled groundnuts, which was his daily routine.
He strolled along, selling his groundnuts to whoever wanted to buy.
When he got to Amakohia area of Owerri, his eyes lit up with joy when a customer beckoned on him to approach.

That ‘customer’ was named Innocent Ekeanyanwu, aged 32.

The boy was called into the famous Otokoto Hotel and the little groundnut seller was visibly very excited, since it was a hotel, it meant that the new ‘customer’ would probably be buying plenty groundnuts which will mean more money to take home to make his parents happy and assist his struggling family.

While waiting, the boy was treated like a guest, he was given a bottle of Coca-Cola to cool off from the punishing heat of tropical Africa.
Innocently, he took the Coke and gulped it with relish.

As he was sipping his soft drink and taking a look at the glittering surrounding of the hotel, he could have imagined having a hotel of his own too later in the future. As he was dreaming, his vision became blurry and the sounds around him became muzzled and dull.

In a matter of minutes, he dozed off, never to wake up again. His tray full of groundnuts was lying in a corner.

Observing the boy from a safe distance was the man who had called him to buy his groundnuts. He had spiked the boy’s drink and once he saw he was asleep he took the limp body of the drugged lad into one of the hotel rooms and what followed next remains one of the most evil things anyone can ever dream of. A sharp cutlass emerged from nowhere and the boy’s head was severed from his body. He was beheaded in a matter of minutes.

After the boy’s head was cut off, he dissembled his toes removed his liver and other parts he needed.
Not done yet, the boy's genitals were not spared as well.
After butchering the boy,and sorted out the organs, he packed his head inside a polythene bag, and buried his remains.

The Butcher, Ekeanyanwu then took the polythene bag containing the boy's head, and headed for the next destination: to the house of the man who needed the fresh head. The man who is behind it all.

HOW DID THE INFORMATION LEAK OUT:

After the grisly murder of the little Okoronkwo by Mr. Innocent Ekeanyanwu (what a name, innocent indeed), he left the hotel to deliver the head where it was needed. He then Stopped a Bike man (motorcyclist) to convey him to the place.

It was the bike man named Opara, whom he stopped to take him to his destination in Eziama that realized that whas his passenger was carrying inside a polythene bag was a fresh human head. It was still dripping with blood. When he alighted, the bike man quickly alerted the police, The Police then intercepted Ekeanyanwu on his way back in a Peugeot 504 car, he was carrying the head with him in the polythene bag

he was going to the residence of a highly-influential figure named Chief Leonard Unaogu at Eziama, Ikeduru Local Council Area with the head but upon arriving, he was told Mr. Unaogu had gone to Lagos.
So Ekeanyanwu had no other option but to return to Owerri with the boy’s head.

When it was time to take the headless body of Ikechukwu to the local mortuary, there was a massive procession and protested by Owerri people. People came out in 1000s to protest the boys ritual killing.
They stayed around and within the hotel premises, waited for the police to confirm that it was indeed a ritual murder.
While more were matching and trooping to the scene of the ritual Murder as the news was spreading.

It was in the midst of this tension that the local media station made its miscalculation. They showed the image of Innocent Ekeanyanwu holding the head of his victim.
The goal of the media was to assure the people, assuage public fear, ask the public to help identify the boy and show official transparency but what followed next was a catastrophe. All hell broke loose as the enraged people of Owerri went haywire after the image was first broadcast on the 24th of September.

All Owerri residents abandoned their businesses and congregated at the town’s central marketplace. It was there they decided on the next plan of action and outlined their strategies to deal with the Otokoto ‘headhunters’.

The news spread rapidly, every home in Owerri had hear news or seen the image of Okoronkwo’s head or his shallow grave.
Unemployed and disgruntled youths took over the parks and issued threats to the Owerri millionaires.
From the Owerri main market, the riots exploded and spread.

The pattern of destruction was neat. The rampaging crowd first went to the morgue and from there, they rushed to the Otokoto Hotel and burnt it to the ground. From there, they went to the nearby palatial mansion of Chief Vincent Duru and destroyed his property, his expensive cars were wrecked and Duru himself narrowly escaped.
From there, the crowd split into attack groups and spread out to other sites of the priviledged elite and unleashed maximum destruction.
The well-known Piano Plaza and Stores, alongside another hotel, Chibet Hotel, and various businesses linked to the Otokoto and their associates were utterly destroyed. The Zubairu-led government later confiscated all the property as recommended by the panel which was headed by Justice PC Onumajuru.

From there, they rushed to the palace of the traditional ruler and chairman of the state council of traditional rulers, Eze Onu Egwu Nwoke (later indicted alongside Aneke and Abure by the panel of inquiry) and burnt down his residence and his petrol station, they also destroyed the king’s 15 airconditioners and many of his cars. They were not done yet, from there, the crowd ‘troops’ headed for the residences of former Imo State officials.

These administrators were targeted because of what was described as ‘their alleged unwillingness to properly tackle several cases of ritual murder, kidnapping and robbery while in office.’ The angry rioters only agreed to calm down when the military administrator (MILAD), assured them that a full, state-level investigation of the incident was going to be launched.

Ekeanyanwu, who murdered the boy, was aged 32 and he worked as a gardener inside the Otokoto Hotel.

SAD|| See What This Boy Wrote Before He Killed Himself For Being Accused Of Rape by His Classmate

There is a rumor that is going around about a young man who decided to hang himself after he was wrongfully accused of raping a fellow student. It has been reported that a student at Kriel Hoerskool in Mpumalanga, South Africa, hanged himself in the classroom and died in the morning while others were praying; the body of the kid was discovered in the classroom after prayer had concluded. People have written reports, which the police have not verified, but according to those reports, he killed himself because of a girl at school who had accused him of something.

These reports have not been confirmed by the police. He has been accused of raping her and has even allegedly written a statement declaring his innocence before committing himself. Unfortunately, after he was recovered, the young lady admitted that she was joking. Before he killed himself, he left a very heartbreaking letter saying that he’s innocent of the things he’s being accused of. On the latter, he even cursed her, saying that He will never rest in peace because of the things she did to him.

He further told his mother not to cry because he was resting. His letter is very heartbreaking; just by reading it, you can tell that his heart was in pain. What even made it worse is that no one believed her when he said he was innocent. Since his letter was sound, the lady was taken to a safe place because they didn’t want the community to attack her for the heartless things she did. See the letter below:

The authorities have been spreading the word to the general public that violence based on gender is a very serious crime that should not be taken lightly. Rape is a very serious crime, and those who are convicted of it face very severe penalties. In my view, the boy is not to blame for what happened. Because he realized that he couldn’t be punished for something that wasn’t his fault, he made the decision to take his own life. If being accused of a crime you are innocent of causes you tremendous agony but you are unable to establish your innocence, then may your soul rest in peace, boy.

The Calculator Man

Thomas Fuller, an African sold into slavery in 1724 at the age of 14, was sometimes known as the “Virginia Calculator” for his extraordinary ability to solve complex math problems in his head. Rumors circulated that he was a savant,  since he could not read or write, but that was not uncommon among slaves at the time. Some believed that he may have gained his skills with math in his homeland in Africa.

His case was often cited by abolitionists of the time as proof that Blacks were in no way mentally inferior to whites.Born in Africa somewhere between present-day Liberia and Benin, Fuller was enslaved and shipped to America in 1724 at the age of 14, eventually becoming the legal property of Presley and Elizabeth Cox of Alexandria, Virginia. Both Fuller and the Coxes were illiterate. The Coxes owned 16 slaves, and appeared to value Fuller the most; he expressed gratitude for not being sold.

Stories of his abilities abounded through the Eastern seaboard. His skill was even used as proof that enslaved Blacks were equal to whites in intelligence, which fueled some pro-abolitionist discussion. When Fuller was about 70 years old, William Hartshorne and Samuel Coates of Pennsylvania were in Alexandria and, having heard of Fuller's powers, sent for him. They asked him two questions which satisfied their curiosity.

First, when they asked him how many seconds there were in a year and a half, he answered in about two minutes, 47,304,000. Second, when they asked how many seconds a man has lived who is 70 years, 17 days and 12 hours old, he answered in a minute and a half 2,210,500,800. One of the men was working out the problems on paper, and informed Fuller that he was wrong, because the answer was much smaller. Fuller hastily replied, "'Top, massa, you forget de leap year." When the leap year was added in, the sums matched.

Despite Fuller's perfect answers, it appeared to Hartshorne and Coates that his mental abilities must have once been greater. They wrote:

He was gray-headed, and exhibited several other marks of the weakness of old age. He had worked hard upon a farm during the whole of life but had never been intemperate in the use of spirituous liquors. He spoke with great respect of his mistress, and mentioned in a particular manner his obligations to her for refusing to sell him, which she had been tempted to by offers of large sums of money from several persons. One of the gentlemen, Mr. Coates, having remarked in his presence that it was a pity he had not an education equal to his genius, he said, "No, Massa, it is best I had no learning, for many learned men be great fools."

This is quite unfortunate...Fresh report has emerged about the little girl, Khadijah Bashir, who was raped when she was 6 months old by the husband of her mother's friend in Kano state of Nigeria. According to report by Aishat Alubankudi who visited the baby in the hospital, a native doctor advised the husband to sleep with a six month old girl for them to have kids as his wife allegedly held the baby's legs for husband while he was raping the little child .

The suspected culprit reportedly hired 10 lawyers to defend him in court. The traumatized baby who is now 8 months old -is being treated at a hospital in Kano after undergoing surgery as her parents are unable to hire any legal representative due to lack of funds.

Below is what Aisha shared on her page;

What a wicked world? Native doctor advised the husband to sleep with a six month old girl for them to have kids. It was the evil wife that held the baby's legs for husband while husband was raping the poor girl. I want to curse them but im too bitter. May God strike down any lawyer that represents those bastard. Also the Babalawo must be arrested. Thanks to Prince Kabir Bayero who has cleared hospital bills and supplied baby's milk etc because the parents are poor. He has promised to support them financially.

Kano Governor pls take on this case!!!

SHE SACRIFICED LOVE AND HE CAME BACK AND MARRIED FIVE MORE WIVES... YORUBA LOVE

When World War II broke out David Oguntoye hid in a ship   and travelled  to Britain  to volunteer  for the Royal Air Force.

He  arrived  in Britain in June 1942,and was selected to train as a navigator in Canada for  four years.  Unfortunately  the time he was returning  to Britain  in 1946, the war had already  ended, which meant couldn't be   deployed  on the battlefield.

Instead   he was posted to Bicester Oxford   as a welfare officer for the Caribbean airmen stationed there.  In June of the same year  a young beautiful white  lady called  Dulcie King , also serving in the Royal Air Force ,  was   posted  to the same station to serve  as an education  instructor.

The two fell in love  and began courting  something  that shocked  the military. Interracial  marriages  were really resented in Britain, and to make it worse this was happening  in the military. Her commanding officer summoned  her and warned  her about going out with a Black person.

Most  of the  officers  disliked the fact that Dulcie had chosen a black boyfriend. Furthemore  it was Ministry  of Defence's   policy  that   interracial  relationships should  nor be allowed  to thrive in the military.  They even transferred her to another station  in an  attempt  to break the relationship, but the love was too strong.

On one occasion a group of airmen tried to attack David, but Dulcie intervened to protect him. The couple who were now  both  holding  the rank  of Flight  Sergeant,  continued to be seen together, and in October 1946 they attended a dance at Royal Air Force  Bicester.

To rub salt in the wound ,  for the first time they decided to hold each other  in public as other airmen  watched. “He sat on the arm of my chair with his arm ostentatiously around me. This, of course, was something we never normally did in public, but we intended to demonstrate unmistakably our relationship,” Dulcie recalled.

One month later the two decided to leave the Royal Air Force  and   got married  immediately  on 16 November  1946 despite the opposition from her parents. They both trained as lawyers  in London   before leaving  for Nigeria  in 1954 where they settled  permanently.   Because  he was considered a chief by  his tribe  Flight  Sergeant  David  went on to marry five other  wives , however,  this did not in anyway  affect their relationship.  She was contented  with being the first wife.

They went on to start  a law firm together  and in  1960,  she denounced  her British  citizenship.  In 1964, David  Oguntoye  was selected as a Court President while Dulcie  Oguntoye  became first a Magistrate and, in 1976, a High Court Judge. She was   the first woman on the Lagos State bench and the second female judge in Nigeria after Modupe Omo-Eboh.

When  David died in June 1997, she  took charge  as a  ‘benevolent matriarch’ to her late husband’s family until  her  death in  2018.

Meet The Man Who Has Been Sleeping With The Corpse Of His Dead Wife For Over 16 Years

Some months ago, a man shocked the whole world after it was discovered that he had been sleeping with the corpse of his dead wife on the same bed for over 16 years. The man whose name is Le Van fully explained how and why he was doing was such an abnormal act.

The story started when the two got married not long after Le Van returned from military assistance as their association was organized from early on.

God blessed the couple as they soon fell in love and lived joyfully with the association delivering seven youngsters.

Le Van’s wife is said to have sadly died. In 2003 and after hearing the news, the sad man surged home yet scarcely got to see his life partner’s face for a couple of moments before she was covered.

The lamenting spouse was so stunned by his wife’s demise that he spent most of his time, night and day, at the burial ground. He was sleeping on his wife’s grave yet following a couple of months, he began agonizing over terrible climate and downpour.

To keep away from the unforgiving climate conditions, he settled on the choice to burrow a tunnel into her grave, so he could sleep close to her. In any case, his concerned youngsters looked into his sleeping spot and prevented him from spending his evenings at the graveyard. It was now that he chose to carry his wife’s home with him assuming he could never again sleep close to her at the graveyard.

Unfit to relinquish his cherished, he uncovered her bones and set them in a pack close to the burial ground. Then, at that point, he began making an empty sculpture looking like a lady, out of the mortar, concrete, paste, and sand and put his wife s remaining parts inside. Then, at that point, he put the empty sculpture on the bed and laid close to it. He has been doing likewise each night throughout the previous 16 years.

His kids were furious with his activities and demanded that he return their mom’s body to her last resting place, yet he rejected, saying he was unable to continue without her.

Because of his activities, neighbors would not visit his home for years and a few of the specialists were alarmed. He would not move and the police, at last, surrendered after repeatedly attempting to convince him to rebury the body.

According to sources, Le Van has been bound to a wheelchair throughout the previous two years, yet he slithers in bed close to the sculpture containing his wife’s remaining parts consistently. He cleans it does its cosmetics consistently, and puts on something else consistently, things that he never did when his wife was alive.

9 Year Old Girl With Only Weeks To Live Gets Married

For two years, Jayla spent her home away from home at the Children’s Medical Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders in Dallas, TX where she met her future husband and leukemia patient, Jose when he was 5. So after two years of sharing a bond that most people will never understand, the parents of both children gave Jayla her dying wish.
Jayla was the niece of a very close friend of mine.

A young couple is starting their lives together after an extravagant wedding.

The nine-year-old bride and seven-year-old groom, both cancer patients, were married Sunday. Jayla Cooper and Jose Griggs vowed to be friends forever.

“I love him, and it was just really important to me,” said Jayla. “I had fun dancing with my dad and with him and my granny.”

Home video shows Jerrod Cooper walking his daughter down the aisle. These are the moments he cherishes after being told she only has a few weeks to live.

“It’s really hard,” he said. “It’s something you never wanna go through or imagine.”

Jayla and Jose were both diagnosed with leukemia two years ago. They spent most of their days together at Children’s Medical Hospital in Dallas, but Jose is actually recovering. He wants the same for Jayla.

“He knows where she’s going, but he doesn’t want her to go,” said Charla Griggs, Jose’s mother. “He’s seven years old and he’s having a hard time dealing with this.”

Because of the time she has left, the family tries to enjoy every moment with Jayla, who is teaching others to live life to the fullest.
“She’s only nine. All I can do is give her what she wants. I give and give, because I don’t know what else to do,” said Lisa Cooper, Jayla’s mother.
The parents took Jose and Jayla to Great Wolf Lodge for their honeymoon.

When people hear of little children getting married, they believe it to be something creepy or wrong. Tales of religious hysteria, abuse or other unsettling things are associated with child marriage. But one story about a child getting married is tragic for completely different reasons. 9-year-old bride Jayla Cooper was married to her 7-year-old friend in Dallas on Sunday. Jayla Cooper became a 9-year-old-bride because it is one of the last things she can do while alive.

Jayla Cooper has been living with leukemia for two years, and is about to lose that fight. Cooper’s childhood leukemia is expected to finally claim her life within two weeks. To mark her final weeks on Earth, Jayla Cooper became the 9-year-old-bride of a fellow leukemia patient and friend, 7-year-old Jose Griggs.

The two children were married on Sunday, vowing to be “friends forever.” Cooper and Griggs met while being treated at the Children’s Medical Hospital in Dallas. The young husband and wife celebrated their union at the Great Wolf Lodge water park in Grapevine, Texas.

A home video was released of Jayla being walked down the aisle by her father, Jerrod Cooper. Jayla told Dallas’s CBS 11 news that she had fun dancing with him, her “granny” and her husband.

Unlike Jayla Cooper, Jose Griggs is on the road to recovery from his leukemia. But doctors are convinced that Cooper is on a different path.

Cooper is not the only person to turn to marriage near the end of her life. In London, a dying reality TV star, Jade Goody, is sparking national debate with her plans to not only get married now, but to have the wedding filmed as part of a TV special.

Goody was one of the stars of the 2002 edition of London’s Big Brother, but got diagnosed with terminal cervical cancer last week. As a result, Goody sold the TV rights to her wedding with fiancee Jack Tweed, in order to raise money for her sons.

The two were married on Sunday, as it was filmed by TV cameras as per Goody’s wishes. Her desire to have her dying weeks filmed by reality television has made national news in Britain, and triggered national debate.

I hate spending money, I haven’t done any laundry for three years and I NEVER use toilet paper

A FRUGAL woman who “hates spending money” has revealed her extreme money-saving ways, including never buying toilet paper.

Kate Hashimoto, lives in New York, and has found a way of avoiding paying for almost everything in her life.

Speaking on TLC’s Extreme Cheapskates, she says: “I have lived in New York for three years, although it’s the most expensive city to live in I have found ways to get around it.

“If I have to spend money, I try and avoid it, I will try and pay as little as possible.”

With a budget of just $200 a month in living expenses, Kate finds ways to reuse whatever she can to make her money go further.

“If I am drying my hands in a public bathroom, I am drying off hands that I washed clean so I keep them (the paper towels) and reuse them,” she explains.

Kate has never paid money for furniture, and instead sources her stuff from skips and off the street.

She says: “I furnished my place by picking up discarded furniture on the street before the trash picks it up, I have saved a couple of thousand dollars on furniture.”

Her bed is made up of old yoga mats that she has piled up to make a mattress, and she uses magazines as a dining table.

Not wishing to waste money on power, Kate avoids cooking, using her dishwasher and oven as storage space in her apartment.

And while New York may be one of the fashion capitals of the world, Kate has no interest in keeping up with the latest trends.

“I haven’t bought any clothes in eight years,” she explains. “The last time I bought underwear was 1998.”

The clothes that Kate does have get washed in her shower as the thrifty woman hasn’t done laundry for three years.

Perhaps Kate’s most unconventional money saving method is the fact that she refuses to fork out for loo roll.

“I don’t use toilet paper, I just use water and soap to wash myself off,” she explains, though her recycled paper towels also come in handy.

Community In Shock As Landlord’s Skeleton Is Found In His Room 4 Years After Last Seen.

The Orogbo Community in Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State of Nigeria was thrown into shock on Sunday when they found of one of their landlords, Mr John Aderemi Abiola, in his room, almost four years after he was last seen in December 2018.

The discovery was made after the community decided, with the approval of the police authorities, to go into his compound to clear the bush in his compound which had overgrown his fence into the next house, causing invasion by reptiles.

As 2019 crept into 2020, the residents started wondering where the man could be. Though he told about two of those he used to communicate with of his intention to go to Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and be back for Ileya ceremony in 2018, not seeing him for the festivity and thereafter made them to think he was staying back where he initially came from.

Calls to his phone lines were not going through other. After it was noticed that the weeds in his compound had grown bushy, the community landlords were said to have decided in a meeting to find a means of getting access to the premises to clear the bush.

However, they were said to have jettisoned the idea because of the implication in the law.

From then to 2021, till 2022 is getting to the end, the residents of the community who did not know his whereabouts decided again to go and clear the bush.

Nigerian Tribune learnt the move was made again when the owner of the piece of land beside Mr Abiola’s house moved in about two years ago after completion of the construction.

But the invasion of his residence by snakes crawling in from the next compound got him worried about the safety of his family members.

This was said to have made the community to approach Apete police station again, where they were given the nod to do the necessary.

So on Sunday the community decided to hire labourers to clear the bush. The house was constructed on the backside of the piece of land while the front side had a thick bush that could not be accessed.

As the labourers got there with some landlords and started the work, they first noticed Mr Abiola’s Volkswagen Golf car with registration number AKD 769 DC which had been covered by the bush before the clearing.

As the building came in view, it was noticed that the window of Mr Abiola’s room was open, which prompted curiosity.
One of the landlords, Mr Mohammed Ademola, who also worked for and used to interact with Mr Abiola, decided to check what was in the room.

He was however shocked when he saw the skeleton on the bed of the house owner. Mr Ademola raised the alarm which made others to race to the window.

They were all shocked and the news quickly spread. It was learnt that the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Apete, SP Grace Akinsehinwa, was promptly informed, which made her to send detectives to the scene for investigation and action.

On Wednesday, while Nigerian Tribune was at the scene to investigate the incident, police detectives, as well as officials of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Ministry of Environment arrived, probably with a plan to evacuate the remains.

However, it has been difficult getting the contacts of deceased’s family members as they were unknown to the community members.

It was then decided that more efforts should be made to trace his family members before the evacuation so that they would not feel left out.

Nigerian Tribune saw a bottle of Astymin, packets of Bicarbonate of soda, vitamin C, Coartem (an antimalaria) and herbal tea covered with dust in his room.

It was evident from his skull and exposed teeth that he was gaptoothed in front. Also, his boxers could still be seen around his waist while the top he must have worn had been eaten by his rotten flesh.

Only a tiny piece remained by his side. Also found with his phones was his laptop.
His plasma TV was still hanging on the wall and his wardrobe still had his clothing and other items. Mr Abiola, whose date of birth was discovered to be October 1, 1955, reportedly moved into the house in July 2017, but was not in close relationship with other residents except formal greetings whenever their paths crossed.

Known as an engineer who was based in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, with his family before moving to Ibadan, he was said to have lived in a couple of areas within the city before constructing the house in Adeosun Community.

He was also known for his frequent travels to Port Harcourt to do his engineering work whenever the need arose.

The central chairman of Adeosun/Idi Orogbo Landlords’ Association, Mr Oluwafemi Omilana, who spoke with the Nigerian Tribune, said that late Mr Abiola always paid his dues.

“But we noticed that he didn’t associate with others and he came to landlords’ meeting just once. His house has a high fence and was constructed at the back with big space in front to the gate.

“We started noticing his absence in the community, although he didn’t mostly stay at home. He used to travel to Port Harcourt in Rivers State. He was an engineer. His compound had become so bushy that snakes were just being seen crawling from there into the house beside him. At a point, we had a meeting and decided to go over the fence to clear the bush.

“On Sunday, we came there with the owner of the house beside him, paid some labourers to clear the bush. When they cleared the front of his building within the compound and could see the house clearly, they saw that the window was open. They peeped in and saw that the man had died a long time ago, with only his skeleton on his bed.

“Immediately, I called the Divisional Police, Apete Division. When we got to the entrance to his apartment, we discovered that it was locked from the inside. We forced it open and saw his skeleton on his bed, with his three phones. One was by his left hand, one was at the back of his head and connected to the wall socket and the third one by his right side. The police have tried to source for his contacts so that we can reach his family but the phone lines had become invalid. There was a phone number we found on one of his identity cards and I called it, but the person called and those with him were just laughing. It seemed they found the enquiries we were making strange. We have the feeling that the number has been re-allocated to another person.

“We have not been able to trace any member of his family. We also made efforts to get needed information from those who worked for him as bricklayer, welder, mechanic, but they told us that Mr Abiola was not the type to disclose his family information to anyone. He used to be alone. We learnt that he and his wife had a disagreement in Port Harcourt and separated. That was why he decided to move into the house he built at Adeosun without letting anyone know where he was.”

Mr Omilana said that the skeleton had not been removed because the community does not want to risk anything.

“The environmental officials were with us but they said that we should do it but get approval from the environment authorities. Now, we want to try and trace the family as much as we can. Mr Abiola had once told one of those who worked with him that his mother was living at Agugu. We want to go there and trace the area to get his family. If that is not successful, we will get the approval from the Ministry of Environment and do the necessary,” he further said.

The secretary of the landlords’ association, Pastor Olusola Bobade, in his contribution said that the deceased moved to his house in July 2017.

“He was coming from Port Harcourt then to construct the building. We initially exempted him from paying development fee but he started paying in January 2018 and was consistent. In October same year, he paid in advance for the rest of the year. The way I perceived him was that he was quiet and didn’t like to relate. He paid all community dues but used not to attend meetings. When we didn’t see him, we were calling his line but it was not going through,” the secretary stated.

A furniture maker, Mr Mohammed Ademola, who also lives in Adeosun and helped the deceased to do some furniture works, including doors and wardrobe, told Nigerian Tribune: “It was in 2018 I did all the work for him. Even, I was the one who did the carpentry work on the building he started constructing beside the main one for tenants that would be home whenever he would need to travel and also be his companions.

“Shortly before Ileya celebration that year, he said he wanted to travel to Port Harcourt and would not spend more than two weeks. He said that he would be back to celebrate Ileya in Ibadan. We were expecting his return but the day after Ileya, my friend, a plank seller who supplied him the ones used for the building he was constructing, noticed that we didn’t see Mr Abiola. His gate has a key that would not reveal if he was in or out, so we didn’t know if he was back or not. We were thinking that he was further engaged in his work or got sick in Port Harcourt. And none of his family members knew where he was living. He had said he would let them know later.

“After a while, the chairman of our landlords’ association went to the police station but was told to hold on and still watch for his return so that it would not lead to litigation on trespassing.

“It happened that the owner of the land beside his own moved in. Snakes were creeping into his house from Mr Abiola’s bushy side, so he notified the community and we decided to clear the bush. The gate was broken on Sunday and we saw that it was locked from inside.

“That was what raised concern in me that he must have been inside when we thought he was still away. After clearing the bush in front, I noticed that the window of his room was open but the curtain drawn. I prayed silently that the situation would not be negative. I collected a cutlass from one of the labourers and used it to cut off part of his window net. As I peeped in, I was shocked when I beheld his skeleton strewn on his bed. I quickly called others outside to notify them. That was how the news spread.”

Mr Ademola also confirmed that the deceased was not known with any of his family members.
“The little I got from him was because I was doing some jobs for him. He told me his village was at Lalupon area and his mother was in Agugu where he used to go to give her money every month. He was an Ibadan indigene. He also told me his family has a farm but he refused to be active in it so that he would not be seen as wanting to get something from it. He was just telling me that we would know his people very soon. I never thought that we would likely know his family this way.

“He told me two of his children are in the United States of America. He once called one of the children, a female, in my presence and they spoke for a long time while I kept working. So he had people but we don’t know them. He told me he had a storey building with four flats in Port Harcourt where his wife was staying.

“He also told me he had high blood pressure and used to taking his medication. Even while working, he would leave where dust was raised or smoke was coming, saying that at his age, he would not like to breathe such in as his health could not sustained such. So, he used to take care of his health.” Mr Kazeem Raji, another man that had interaction with the late engineer when he was alive, burst into tears when he was about to speak.

After gaining composure, he said: “I used to address the deceased as Brother Biola. I knew him over 20 years ago. I helped him when he was constructing his house at Adeosun. I knew him through the master that I did apprenticeship with. He and his friend then, whom I addressed as Brother Bunmi, used to go to Cotonou, Republic of Benin together. At a time, we didn’t see him again. I saw him again about 15 years after. Even, I was the one who helped him to purchase his Golf car.

“He used to travel a lot and would sometimes drop one of his phones, at home. The last time he travelled and didn’t see him, I thought he was still away. He had obtained visa to travel to the USA and he informed me about It, so I thought he had travelled out of Nigeria. That was my belief until this shocking discovery.”

He said his wife is an Igbo by tribe but that they had separated; it is difficult to trace his family.
